AIBA Election
National governing bodies for boxing in England Scotland and Wales call for new leadership at AIBA by backing of Boris van der Vorst in forthcoming presidential election
The national governing bodies for boxing in England, Scotland and Wales have made a collective decision to back Netherland’s Boris van der Vorst in the forthcoming AIBA Presidential election.
The trio confirmed the decision in an open letter, signed by the Chairs of all three NGBs, to other AIBA affiliated national federations.
The letter outlined their shared view that AIBA was in a precarious position and required new leadership that would address a wide range of concerns including integrity, governance and financial transparency.
The letter read: “It is critically important that AIBA should now elect new and principled leadership that will address the significant and longstanding issues of leadership, integrity, governance and financial transparency that have afflicted the organisation for far too long.
“We believe that Boris van der Vorst is the best candidate to deliver this and lead a process of reform that will enable AIBA to become a financially transparent, ethical, well-governed, international federation which puts the interest of the boxers at the heart of decision-making.”
All votes in the presidential election will be cast at the AIBA Ordinary Congress which will be held virtually on 12 and 13 December 2020.
