Anti Doping Information

It has come to the attention of Welsh Boxing that some individuals are using CBD supplements (Oil Concentrates, Isolate, Capsules, Edibles, Tinctures or Vape Oil).

The 2020 WADA Prohibited List prohibits the use of the following cannabinoids:

  1. Natural and synthetic tetrahydrocannabinols (THCs)

  2. Synthetic cannabinoids that mimic the effects of THC

There is a chance CBD supplements may still contain prohibited cannabinoids such as THCs. Contamination of CBD supplements with prohibited cannabinoids is very feasible due to the manufacturing process. CBD supplements are not tested in WADA registered testing labs due to these reasons. Many CBD companies carry out their own testing on THC levels in CBD products, however the reliability of these in-house testing programmes is unknown. Consumption of a CBD supplement could potentially lead to a failed test due to levels of THC in the urine or blood.

The use of this product would not mitigate a boxer’s liability for a positive drug test, therefore an anti-doping rule violation would be committed and subsequently carry the relevant sanction. CBD oil is available to buy as a supplement therefore it falls under the protocol of needing to be an Informed Sport registered product and be batch tested. There are currently no CBD supplements available that meet this criteria.

The safety and welfare of our boxers is our priority and we strongly advise all boxers take the above information into consideration.
