Member Update 23

Monday 7 June

The First Minster, Mark Drakeford has confirmed that Wales will begin a phased move to alert level one on Monday 7 June. As part of the move to Alert Level One, the Welsh Government will be moving to allow larger scale events to happen outdoors. The press release specifically says: "Larger outdoor organised gatherings and events, such as concerts, football matches and sporting activities, like organised running groups can go ahead for up to 4,000 people standing and 10,000 people seated. All organisers planning events and activities must undertake a full risk assessment and put in place measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including social distancing." Moves to Alert Level One for indoor activity will be considered for the next review, to be announced on June 24th.

Unfortunately, this does not help our attempts to get boxing back up and running. Whilst the Welsh Assembly Government keeps social distancing in place, both outdoors and in particular indoors, close contact sports such as boxing are restricted and only fitness and bag work is allowed. That means pad work and sparring is still NOT allowed and is not covered by WABA insurance. We, like you, hope for some movement on this at the next review on 24 June.

I’m sorry the news could not be any better.
