Chepstow ABC’s Remarkable Summer Continues with Outstanding Irish Box Cup Success

Chepstow ABC's incredible run of form shows no signs of slowing down after another outstanding weekend of competition, this time at the prestigious Monkstown Box Cup in Ireland.

Chepstow ABC’s incredible run of form shows no signs of slowing down after another outstanding weekend of competition earlier this month, this time at the prestigious Monkstown Box Cup in Ireland.

The club travelled to Dublin fresh from two hugely successful weekends on the road. At the Manchester Box Cup, Chepstow returned home with two gold medals and one silver, before following that up with an excellent performance at the Hull Box Cup, claiming three gold medals and one silver, a result that saw the club finish 10th overall out of more than 80 clubs in attendance.

With three major box cups in as many weekends, the challenge only became tougher. The Monkstown Box Cup attracted close to 500 boxers from across the world, providing another high-quality test for the Chepstow squad.

Despite the demanding schedule, the club once again produced exceptional performances.

Oliver Vaughan enjoyed an impressive tournament, boxing three times. Vaughan recorded two unanimous decision victories to reach the final before producing a superb display against the unbeaten Irish champion. In a closely contested contest, Vaughan was edged out by split decision to claim a well-deserved silver medal.

Peter Mullane was in outstanding form throughout the competition. The talented Chepstow boxer won all three of his contests by unanimous decision, including a standout victory over an Indian boxer who currently holds the Asian championship title. Peter’s dominant performances earned him the gold medal in emphatic fashion.

Brother Terry Mullane continued his own impressive development by winning both of his contests by unanimous decision to secure another gold medal for the club. Terry’s performances were recognised with one of the tournament’s highest individual honours as he was named Best Male Boxer across an event featuring close to 500 competitors, a remarkable achievement and testament to the quality of his boxing throughout the weekend.

Rounding off another successful tournament was Jay McCullagh, who boxed three times. After recording two unanimous decision victories to reach the final, McCullagh narrowly missed out on gold, losing on points to finish with an excellent silver medal.

The performances underline the outstanding work being carried out by the coaches and volunteers at Chepstow ABC. Da Iawn Chepstow.
