Commonwealth champion Rosie Eccles has been named Team Wales’ Flag Bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, earning one of the nation’s highest sporting honours.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth gold medallist will proudly carry the Welsh flag as Team Wales enters the OVO Hydro on Thursday evening.
Rosie, one of Welsh boxing’s most decorated athletes, was surprised with the news by Team Wales Chef de Mission Gethin Jones. Believing she was attending a routine interview to reflect on her recent 30th birthday, the Commonwealth champion instead discovered she had been chosen to lead her nation onto one of sport’s biggest stages.
After capturing Commonwealth gold at Birmingham 2022, she has continued to represent Wales with distinction on the international stage and remains an inspiration to the next generation of boxers.
Eccles will lead Team Wales into the OVO Hydro as the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games officially begin, carrying the Welsh flag with pride as the nation starts its campaign on the Commonwealth stage.
Team Wales Chef de Mission Gethin Jones said:

For Eccles, the honour of carrying the Welsh flag is another proud moment in a career that continues to inspire. As Team Wales marches into the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow, Welsh boxing will once again be represented at the very front of the nation’s team.
