Welsh Boxing is saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Cranswick, a proud Barry native and respected figure in the sport.
Dave represented Wales at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and went on to become Welsh welterweight champion in 1967, also winning the prestigious ABA National Championships title that same year. Trained by Bill “Wilf” West, he enjoyed a successful amateur career before turning professional in 1968, competing in 21 contests.
A respected figure in boxing circles, Dave was also proud to serve as a sparring partner for Ken Buchanan ahead of his fight with Roberto Durán.
Dave’s contribution to Welsh boxing will be remembered with great respect. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
