Abergavenny ABC

Since its establishment in March 2022, Abergavenny ABC has been welcomed with open arms by the town and surrounding areas. 

Kieran Gething, a coach at the boxing club, has told Welsh Boxing why he felt a club needed to be set up in the area. 

“There have been a lot of boxers that have come from the town,” he explained, “but they’ve always had to travel to gyms or only had YMCAs to train in.  

“It was big for me personally to get an affiliated club here as I believe greatly in the community here.” 

And, according to Kieran, his faith has been rewarded. 

“The club seems to have been positive for a lot of people.  

“The local school supplies a lot of our members and it’s given a talking point to older people in the area too, with some members crediting the club as the reason for good focus and wellbeing in their life! 

“We’ve had a great reaction initially, but we still have more publicising to do!” Kieran confirmed.  

“I really think we’ve got a great thing going here and hope to get a permanent residence sorted to invest even more heavily in the club and, importantly, the competitors!” 

Boxing has always been an inspiring tool to bring people together for good, and Kieran plans to showcase that power through club shows around Abergavenny. 

“We have professional boxing going on in the town throughout his year initially, and towards the end of the year we have two shows planned. 

“For those, we will be using new venues and hopefully inspiring those around the town that see their friends and family boxing to be involved with the club!”
