New Life Time Members
Four presented with Welsh Boxing Life Membership Awards
Welsh Boxing were thrilled to award four people with Life Membership Awards last month.
Carl Pesticcio of Prince of Wales ABC, Stephen ‘Spud’ Brophy of Premier ABC and Nigel Davies of Cwmavon Hornets ABC were presented their certificates by Welsh Boxing Chair Paul Thorogood MBE at September’s Annual General Meeting, while Tyrone ‘Paddy’ Simons later received his from West Division Chair Paul Grenfell.
The four will now receive free membership for life, invitation and free entry to all Welsh Boxing events, and more!
Carl is regularly seen at Welsh Boxing events, sitting ringside at the record book table, and gives a tremendous amount of time to the community. Having been a presence at Prince of Wales ABC since 1969, Carl has also sat on the Welsh Boxing Board and still volunteers at events, such as last month’s Welsh Boxing Box Cup.
Best known as ‘Spud’, Stephen has been involved with boxing for well over four decades, first as a boxer himself before taking over the running of Premier ABC. And during his time as a Head Coach, Spud has produced numerous Welsh, British, European and Commonwealth champions, with many others joining the pro ranks.
Nigel has coached over 100 national champions in his 30 years of experience as a boxing coach. He has been awarded Welsh Coach of the Year and UK Coach of the Year in his time, as well as having gone to two Olympic Games (Beijing and London) with GB Boxing and been National Coach for Holland. Nigel has also sat on the Schools committee, Youth committee, and has been General Secretary of the Welsh Coaching Commission and on The General Council.
Kown as ‘Paddy’, Tyrone has been recognised for his vital involvement at Gwent Swansea ABC for the past 45 years. He has been an Assistant Coach for that time, soon passing coaching qualifications after his son took up boxing and since developed many good boxers. Even now, at 80, Paddy helps out on the pads, not missing a session!
Welsh Boxing would like to congratulate and thank all of our Lifetime Achievement Award Members for their incredible contribution to our communities and our sport here in Wales.
At September’s AGM, Welsh Boxing members also reappointed three Board members. Katie Langan, Helen Arnold-Richardson, and Richard Brice.
