Stallion Boxing Gym nominated for Welsh Fitness Awards 2023

Welsh Boxing would like to wish the best of luck to Stallion Boxing Gym who have been nominated for Gym of the Year at the 2023 Welsh Fitness Awards!

Speaking to Welsh Boxing, coach Angelo Dragone said he and the rest of the club were “absolutely blown away” with their nomination.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, 22 September in Cardiff.

Welsh Boxing is delighted to see the fantastic work of Stallion recognised on a national level like this, with their community efforts representing part of an exciting nomination.

It exemplifies the crucial work that all of our clubs undertake in local communities throughout Wales.

“Personally, it’s a massive achievement,” Angelo told us. “I’m a bit of a sole trader and built the business from a little storage container – that’s how it all started!

“We’ve grown and progressed amazingly in the last couple of years – from the 20-foot storage container in which we started, we’re now working out of a 2,400-square-foot gym.

“Last season was our first amateur boxing season, which was part of our success with champions at the Welsh Novice Championships and West Box Cup. It was a really successful first season, which goes to show the hard work and dedication we put in to be nominated for these types of awards!”

Stallion are a great example of the community work that boxing clubs do, as well as having success in the ring.

“We’ve been doing projects in the gym like female-only sparring, which has been a huge success and helped get our name out there,” explained Angelo, “and we also do a lot of community projects, for example for vulnerable young people and in disability sports.”

It’s fantastic to see the hard work of people like Angelo being recognised, with the coach opening his doors at 04:30 every morning, seeing his first clients at 05:00 and sometimes only leaving the gym at 20:00 in the evening.

“I do put the hard work and dedication into it, and I’m just grateful and thankful for the nomination,” he stated.

“Being there is an achievement, but if I can win it, it would be absolutely amazing.

“I’m really happy and really proud and want to say thank you to everyone who’s walked through the doors over the years and supported – long may it continue!”
