Welsh Boxing Clubs Lead the Way with Energy-Saving Grants
More Welsh boxing clubs have received transformative Energy Saving Grants from Sport Wales, funded by the Welsh Government, to make their facilities more sustainable and energy-efficient
Following the success of the initiative in 2023/24, the Energy Saving Grant reopened in May 2024, with funding provided to boxing clubs across Wales. The improvements range from solar panel installations to enhanced insulation and energy-efficient lighting, empowering clubs to lower their energy bills while contributing to a greener future.
The boxing clubs awarded grants are:
Ashley Brace’s ABC – £19,651
Gelligaer and District ABC – £24,868
Shotton Boxing Club – £12,540
Holyhead & Anglesey ABC – £15,958
A Closer Look at the Clubs’ Projects
Gelligaer and District ABC is leading the charge towards sustainability with a £24,868 grant that will fund the installation of solar panels, double glazing, and modern heating and cooling units. These upgrades will allow the club to use solar power for year-round temperature control, creating a more comfortable environment for members while slashing energy costs.
At Shotton Boxing Club, a £12,540 grant will be used to install solar panels and energy-efficient heaters, significantly cutting down on heating and energy bills.
Ashely Brace’s ABC, based in Ebbw Vale, will use its £19,651 grant to enhance the building’s insulation and upgrade all lighting to energy-efficient LEDs. These changes will create a better training environment and reduce the club’s carbon footprint.
Lastly, Holyhead & Anglesey ABC has been awarded £15,958 to make energy-saving improvements to their premises, helping them save money and lower their environmental impact.
Welsh Boxing congratulates these clubs on securing funding and leading the way in creating a greener future for sport in Wales. We extend our thanks to Sport Wales and Welsh Government for their continued support of grassroots sports and their commitment to sustainability.
