Welsh Boxing is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Tonge to its Board as Commercial Director.
Simon joins the organisation with extensive senior leadership experience across professional sport, events, hospitality and venue management, bringing a strong commercial and strategic background to the role.
Throughout his career, Simon has led commercial growth initiatives, developed high-value partnerships and overseen strategic transformation projects across multiple sectors. His expertise spans sponsorship and partnerships, stakeholder engagement, hospitality, events, ticketing, business development and long-term organisational planning.
Speaking about his appointment, Simon said:
“What attracted me most to the opportunity was the chance to help support and grow a sport that delivers genuine impact within communities across Wales. Boxing has a unique ability to develop discipline, confidence, resilience and opportunity for people from all backgrounds, and I believe Welsh Boxing has a significant platform to build upon both competitively and commercially.”
He added:
“Modern sport requires governing bodies to think beyond traditional revenue streams and develop stronger partnerships, wider audience engagement and more innovative commercial strategies, whilst always protecting the integrity and accessibility of the sport.”
Simon also highlighted the importance of balancing commercial development with community impact and athlete progression.
“Commercial success must support participation, athlete pathways and community impact rather than exist separately from them. I hope to bring a fresh commercial perspective that can help Welsh Boxing strengthen partnerships, increase visibility and unlock new opportunities that ultimately benefit members at every level of the sport.”
As he begins his role on the Board, Simon shared a message to the wider Welsh Boxing community:
“Firstly, I would like to say how honoured I am to join the Board of Welsh Boxing and become part of a community with such a proud history and strong future potential.”
“The dedication shown by clubs, coaches, volunteers, officials and athletes across Wales is the foundation of the sport. My priority is to support the organisation in a way that helps create greater opportunities, stronger sustainability and continued growth for the entire boxing community.”
“Most importantly, I want people to know that I am joining the Board to listen, learn and contribute positively. Success in sport is always built collectively, and I look forward to working with everyone involved to help Welsh Boxing continue progressing both inside and outside the ring.”
The appointment reflects Welsh Boxing’s continued commitment to strengthening its commercial strategy, growing partnerships and supporting the long-term development of boxing across Wales.
